Theme for 2003: Peace with God, peace with self and peace with others.
Key Verse for 2003: Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God
(Matthew 5:9).
Prayer for the Year: Lord make me an instrument of your peace.JESUS
LIFTED UP ON THE CROSS
"Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so the son of man must be
lifted up that all who believe may have eternal life." John 3:14.
The passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are the central themes for
meditation this month. The cross and crucifixion of Jesus brings hope to the suffering
humanity. When they crucified him, Jesus was lifting himself up to the point of the
sufferings of humanity. Joseph F. Nassal, in his book Faith Walkers writes,
"In this action of being raised up on the cross, Jesus draws to himself all the pain,
all the suffering and all the sin of the world to his very self. When Jesus is lifted up
on the cross, he draws the poison of sin and death from our lives. The cross, symbol of
death, becomes our symbol of life. The cross we are nailed to now names our pain. The
cross we are nailed to now claims our victory. The cross we are nailed to now lifts us up
and sets us free."
When Jesus was lifted on the cross, he was lifting us up so that we may not suffer
alone but he also could participate in our sufferings. On the cross we see a partner in
our sufferings. On the cross we see a friend who has gone through similar sufferings. On
the cross we see Jesus identifying himself with our own sufferings. Now we could cast our
burdens upon him and experience the inner freedom of healing while enduring sufferings. On
the cross Jesus started a new journey, a journey together with the suffering humanity. At
the foot of the cross let us begin a new journey with Jesus, who participates in our
sufferings. We are not alone, but he who has gone through the valley of death is walking
with us. Let us celebrate the new journey with the lifted up Jesus that we may have life
and life eternal.
UP ON THE CROSS-HE MAKES US WHOLE AND HOLY, WHILE HE IS BEING
BROKEN.

Parishioners Comment Section:
"One way to attract more parishioners to the Praise and Worship English service is
by keeping it short and sweet. Too many songs and never-ending repetitions rob the songs
of their intended impact. Furthermore, the main message should not exceed 20 minutes. On a
good day, a scintillating speaker can hold sway over an audience for about that length of
time. There is no rule that says Praise and Worship English services should be as long as
the Malayalam ones. Let us strive for "quality" and not
"quantity"."
-Sam Johnson.
