Theme for 2003: Peace with God, peace with self and peace with others.
Key Verse for 2003: Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God
(Matthew 5:9).
Prayer for the Year: Lord make me an instrument of your peace."Therefore,
however you want people to treat you, so treat them." Matthew 7:12
A young employee misappropriated several hundred dollars of
his companys money. When it was discovered, he was told to report to the chief
executive of the company. As he was going to the big bosss office, he was
heavyhearted and fearful, and thought that he was going to loose his job. Is the world
going to turn upside down?
Upon arriving in the office of the senior executive, the young
man was questioned about the entire affair. He admitted what he has done. The executive
then surprised him by asking him a question, "If I keep you in your present position,
can I trust you in the future?" The young man brightened and said, "Yes sir, you
surely can! I have learned my lesson."
The executive then said, "I am not going to press charges
and you can continue in your present responsibility." The young man expressed his
gratitude, but the executive stopped him and said, "I think you ought to know that
you are the second man in this company who gave into temptation and was shown leniency. I
was the first. What you have done, I did. The mercy you are receiving, I received. It is
only the grace of God that can keep us both." And so, too, with each of us. Let us
forgive ourselves, receive Gods forgiveness and forgive others as we have received
forgiveness.
Blame yourself as you would blame others; excuse others as you
would excuse yourself; forgive others as you would forgive yourself. Forgiveness gives
freedom from guilt.
