Theme for 2003: Peace with God, peace with self and peace with others.
Key Verse for 2003: Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God
(Matthew 5:9).
Prayer for the Year: Lord make me an instrument of your peace. My Lord
and My God
Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God." John 20:28
The Indian churches remember July 3rd as the St. Thomas Day.
It is believed that apostle St. Thomas arrived Kerala in A.D. 52. His arrival marked the
beginning of Christianity in India. He preached the gospel, laid the foundations of the
Indian church and died as a martyr in A.D. 72. He was a traveler, a missionary and a
church planter. He proclaimed his faith when he first met the resurrected Christ. He was
labeled as a man without much faith, but he proclaimed his faith in front of Jesus and
other disciples, and proved that he is man of faith and a faithful servant of the master.
The St. Thomas Christians of India are very proud of their
ancient roots and rich traditions. But we sometimes forget the faith proclamation and
missionary zeal of the founder of the church. St. Thomas day reminds us the need of
faithfulness to our Lord and his mission. "My Lord and My God" should become the
faith proclamation of the St. Thomas Christians all over the world. Thomas first
proclaimed it through his words and thereafter though his missionary lifestyle. Every
Sunday we proclaim our faith so loudly, but Monday thru Friday it remains less proclaimed.
Let us make a conscious effort to follow St. Thomas, his faith and mission, in this
country and wherever we go. Let our church become "The Atlanta Mar Thoma Missionary
Church." |
