Theme For The Year 2004: FELLOWSHIP
Key Verse For the Year : "But if we walk in the light ... we
have fellowship with one another" (I John1:7)
Life and Abundant Life
"I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more
abundantly." John 10:10
A veteran mountain climber was sharing his experiences with a
group of novices preparing for their first major climb. He has conquered many of the
worlds most difficult peaks. He said, "your goal is to experience the
exhilaration of the climb and the joy of reaching the peak. Each step draws you closer to
the top. If your purpose for climbing is just to avoid death, your experience will be
minimal". Similarly, Jesus did not call us to live the Christian life just to escape
hell.
Christian life is not to be a life of minimum joy and
fulfillment, but a life that is full and overflowing. Our purpose in following Christ
should not be merely to avoid eternal punishment. If that is our primary motivation, we
are missing the wonders, joys and victories of climbing higher and higher with Jesus. Our
purpose in life is to experience full and abundant life in Christ and with Christ. We can
fill our cup either to the half or to the brim, so as to overflow. Jesus has come into
this world to enable us to live our life abundantly and to the fullest. Faith, love and
hope are three essentials of such a life and the life and death of Jesus gives us the
power to live our life to the fullest. Are we living our life to its fullest? The lent
season is the time to revitalize our life so that we may be able to live our life to its
fullness.
Lent is the time of fasting, and feasting the abundance of
life. |
