Theme For The Year 2004: FELLOWSHIP

Key Verse For the Year : "But if we walk in the light ... we have fellowship with one another" (I John1:7)

Create in me a clean heart, O God.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10)

The following words are seen on the tomb of an Anglican Bishop, who lived in the twelfth century A.D, in the crypts of Westminster Abbey:

When I was young, free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world. As I grew older and wiser, I discovered the world would not change, so I shortened my sights somewhat and decided to change only my country. But it too seemed immovable. When I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only my family, those closest to me, but also, they would have none of it. And now I lie on my deathbed, I suddenly realize if I had changed myself first, then by example, I would have changed my family. From their inspiration and encouragement, I would then have been able to better my country and, who knows, I may have even changed the world.

King David was destined to rule the country, but was broken within himself. He thought that the people in his country were wrong and evil, but God helped him to understand that the evil comes from his inside. This led to his confession and transformation, as we see in Psalm 51. The cleansing has to begin within us in order to begin it outside. Our family, our church, our society and our world, all need enormous change, but it has to start with us. Let us continuously pray like King David: “Create in me a clean heart, O God,” and yield ourselves to changes. Lord I want to be like Jesus in my heart!
