Theme For The Year 2004: FELLOWSHIP
Key Verse For the Year : "But if we walk in the light ... we
have fellowship with one another" (I John1:7)
During the month of July, we celebrate the St. Thomas Day, the Parish Day and the third anniversary of the dedication of our Church Sanctuary. How do we effectively participate in a celebration? What is the spirit and outcome of such celebrations?
First of all, a celebration is an act of remembrance. We remember the history, events, persons and the key elements of the celebrated event. We have to remember St. Thomas, the founder of Indian Christianity and also the grace of God that allowed this disciple of Christ to travel to the east and preach the gospel there. While we remember this historical event, we have to feel responsible for reaching the unreached people in the world with the love and gospel of Christ, and become filled with the spirit of mission. During the parish day, we have to remember all those who have worked hard for the formation and growth of our parish. Are we prepared to remember?
Secondly, a celebration is an act of thanksgiving. We have to give thanks to the Lord for loving us so dearly, for coming into this world for our salvation and for guiding us every day and every moment. When ten lepers were healed, only one returned to give thanks to the Lord. We have to reflect upon the ratio of God’s blessings and our occasions of thanksgiving. If it is 1:1, we are OK. Otherwise we have to rethink about our willingness to give thanks to the Lord. We have to give thanks to the Lord for the historical events of salvation, sustenance and mission. Are we prepared to give thanks?
Thirdly, a celebration is an act of dedication. Jesus celebrated his life through dedicating it to the mission of God. St. Thomas celebrated his life by dedicating it to the propagation of Gospel. Abraham Malpan celebrated his life through engaging in the ministry of reforming and reviving the Malankara church, which was almost dead during his time. Martin Luther King celebrated his life by dedicating himself for the freedom movement and the spiritual renewal of the Black community as well as of the nation. Are we prepared to dedicate ourselves for the larger mission of the Kingdom of God?
Let us celebrate our life and mission through remembering, thanksgiving and dedicating.
