Theme For The Year 2004: FELLOWSHIP
Key Verse For the Year : "But if we walk in the light ... we
have fellowship with one another" (I John1:7)
Fellowship with God and with other
“Truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His son Jesus
Christ.” 1John 1:3
“To live above with those we love- that will be grace and glory. To live below with those we know - now that’s a different story,” said somebody. Although we look forward to having joyful fellowship with each other one day in heaven, we often fail to build up such a relationship here in this world. What we don’t have here won’t be there too.
Do we isolate ourselves from others? If so we are isolating ourselves from the Kingdom too. We need fellowship with others to become human beings; otherwise we would be less than human beings. Christian fellowship is primarily with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and secondly with others. The balance between these two is decisive of the nature of our life when we leave this world.
Do we have the space within us to accept others with all their weaknesses? The heart of Jesus was spacious enough to accept the Pharisees, gentiles, sinners, tax collectors and even lepers. He became the friend of the sinners. He considered the weaknesses of his followers as resources for the Kingdom. He felt at home with others.
Jesus left for us an example of fellowship by becoming friend of the least and the lost.
We have good friends who are similar to us and agree with us in almost everything. That is good. What about those who are different from us differ with us in almost everything? Let us create space within us to become their friends too, even though it is very difficult, so that all of us could become partakers of the Kingdom. Let the Kingdom come to us through others, and to others through us.
Prayer: Lord, create in us a spacious heart to accept and love others who are not like us. |
