Holy Spirit: Our Companion and Guide

“When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you in all truth” John 16:3

     Jesus has risen from the dead, Halleluiah. Before his death he told his disciples that he would send the comforter (helper) to be with them always. The Greek word for ‘helper’ or ‘comforter’ when translated means “called to one’s side or aid.” It signifies someone who can be to us what Christ was to his disciples. Though He is invisible to our eyes, the Holy Spirit is with us everyday, just as Jesus walked with his disciples on the earth.

     Lisa Marino, the famous athlete and golfer, has a personal fitness coach who gives her daily advice and encouragement. But she has never seen him. She sends him a report daily of her training and activities, through email and he gives a prompt feed back about her performance, weaknesses and strengths. This response helps her to make corrections and it keeps her fit, energetic and enthusiastic.

     Holy Spirit cannot be contacted through email. Our email is our prayer (prayer mail). We can keep a sustained relationship with him through acknowledging his continuous presence with us. He walks with us and lives with us even though we cannot see him. As long us we are willing to keep the relationship, we would be able to experience the presence of the one who walks with us. He gives continuous feed backs and opportunities for self reflection, correction and growth. As we walk with him, we grow in divine love and human fellowship, all with an eternal perspective.

     Jesus has risen and the Comforter that he promised is with us today. As He walks with us, let us keep the pace with Him and become true Christians and God’s children in all its fullness. He is our companion and our guide who never leaves us but only helps us to grow.
