"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of
knowledge" Prov. 1:7
Dearly beloved in Christ,
By the middle of this month schools and colleges
will be opened after summer holidays. May the new academic year be a
happy, joyful, and enriching for all students. I wish all students every
success.
People engage in education for different purpose. Some
do it to acquire wealth, get fame or just to collect more information.
Here, we are reminded that wisdom does not come automatically. We need to
have the fear/devotion to God. The reason behind this affirmation is that
wisdom comes from God and it is God's gift to us.
What is the prime aim of education? It is to bring out
the dormant and hidden talents of the students. It should aim the
harmonious development of the physical, spiritual, emotional and
intellectual potentials of the person. The unbalanced growth of the one
among them will cause harmful effects. Intellectual, emotional, spiritual
and physical qualities should be given equal importance in
education.
Education should be student oriented. Development of
the good qualities is more important than the mere learning of data.
Education should help in preserving the health of the character. The
students should be trained to use the acquired knowledge in daily life.
Unfortunately, the present education system is unable to equip the
students to face the challenges of the work-a-day-life. It is like
painting on a snow flake which will melt before the sun. So it requires a
sea-change to bring up a new generation capable of responding to the
realities of life. This is the challenge of higher education, especially
through Christian agencies.
"The first duty of a university is to teach wisdom not trade;
character, not technicalities" -Winston Churchill |

1 Peter: 3:7. "Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to
knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being
heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered."
When prayers are not answered, you should examine yourself in the light of
God's word. If you find anything not pleasing to God ask for forgiveness that
your prayers may be answered. (1 John 1:9).
- An unharmonious relationship between husband and wife will hinder prayer
(1 Peter: 1-7)
- Selfishness will hinder prayer (James 4:3)
- An unforgiving spirit will hinder prayer (Matt.5:22,24) Many Christians go
without answers to prayer because they have wronged others; or have been
wronged, and have failed to humble themselves and seek reconciliation.
- Unbelief will hinder prayer (james1:6,7; Heb. 11:6)
- Known sin in the heart will hinder prayer (Isa. 59:1,2 and Psalms. 66:18)
When you pray, go to God in all humility. Ask Him to revel anything in your
life that is not pleasing to Him. Then judge it: confess it; calling it by
name and forsake it. Pray in all simplicity and earnestness, believing, and
God will hear and answer
NEXT MONTH: DOES GOD ANSWER ALL PRAYERS?
-Dr. Thampi P. Daniel.
