ROLE OF WOMEN IN POST -MODERN SOCIETY

Then Jesus answered," Women you have great faith! Your request is granted." (Mat.15:28) On 10th of September we are observing the Savika Sangham day. The Mar Thoma Suvishesha Savika Sangham was established in1919 during the Maramon convention under the leadership of Bishop Abraham Mar Thoma. The Sangham's motto is "service and evangelism through active participation of women believers" .

The Bible gives examples of women who could be role models for us. In the New Testament we see that women accompanied Jesus in his ministry. Some of the named women are Mary -mother of Jesus, the Samaritan women, the Canaanite women and Martha and Mary. Some of the un- named are: the poor widow (Mark12:41-44), the woman who anointed Jesus with expensive perfume (Matt26:6-13). We can learn the following lessons from these women:

1. Readiness to accept God' will - acceptance
Mary, Mother of Jesus said: "I am the Lord's servant, may it happen to me as you have said". In our lives it means acceptance of who we are, through self - knowledge. This happen through self reflection, know about our weakness and strengths, our hopes and fears for ourselves and others. Even when a problem seems difficult, with prayer and determination try to overcome the obstacle.

2. Sharing Jesus' words and deeds -Witnessing

The Samaritan women went and related her story to her townsfolk and the people came to hear Jesus Similarly we are called to witness Jesus to our families and share his blessings with others.

 3. Believing in God' power
The Cannonite women pleaded with Jesus to cure her and Jesus answered her: "You are a woman of great faith what you want will be done for you" Even when our prayers are not granted, try to see the greater will of god.

4. Caring
Martha and Mary welcomed Jesus to their house and ministered to Him. Similarly be in touch with your own feelings and the feeling of others.

On this Sangham day we are called to serve the Lord according to gifts and abilities with which he has blessed us and in the stations of life in which He has placed us.

DOES GOD ANSWER ALL PRAYERS?

"If ye abide in me, and my word' abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you." St. John: 15: 7

The Bible is filled with answered prayers from Genesis to Revelation. You are commanded to pray, and God has promised to answer (Jer. 33:3) In the above Scripture, there are two requirements for answers to prayer. First, you are to abide in Him; that is to continue in Him. It means to remain in His perfect will at all cost (Rom: 12:12) Second, His words are to abide in you; they are to become a vital part of your life. You are to be filled with, and guided by, His words (Col. 3: 16,17). Meet these two requirements, and your prayers will be answered.

(1) The answer is some times immediate. Peter walked on the water to go to Jesus, and he began to sink, he prayed "Lord save me." The answer was immediate (Matt.14:22-31).

(2) The answer is some time delayed. The delay is according to His will (Rom: 8:28) The resurrection of Lazarus is a good example of delayed answer to prayer. Lazarus was sick. Mary and Martha sent for Jesus to come and heal him. But Jesus delayed coming until Lazarus was dead and in the tomb for four days. Then He came and raised Lazarus from the dead. The answer was delayed-but not denied (John 11: 1-44).

(3) The answer is sometimes "no". When God answers with a "no", " He always accompanies the answer with peace (Phil.4:6,7) and grace (2nd Cor. 12:7-10)

(4) The answer is sometimes different from what you expect. You pray for patience and God sends tribulation-because "tribulation workth patience (Rom5:3). God answers all your prayers - not according to your wishes, but according to His perfect will.
