"Man does not live on bread alone, but on every
word that comes from the mouth of God" (Matt. 4:4)
We have come closer of another month with various events
such as V. Evangelistic Sunday, Youth Sunday, Family Sunday, Annual
Convention etc. We have organized various programs in relation to this. It
is high time to evaluate where we stand.
In Matt. 4:4 Jesus quotes the scripture saying "man shall not
live by bread alone,………" To experience life, he has to search
for something more valuable than mere bread. For Jesus it is Word that
comes from God. This Word is true and keeps you away from all falsehood.
We need two kinds of education: one that teaches us how to make a
living and one that teaches us how to live. The modern man gives priority
to the first and usually avoids the second. He is trapped in the vicious
cycle of materialism and consumerism - a life for bread alone. When a man
concentrates merely on accumulation of wealth, he may get wealth without
welfare; without prosperity and growth without stability.
In 1932, eight of the wealthiest people in the world met. Their combined
wealth, it is estimated, exceeded the wealth of the government of the
United States at that time. These men certainly knew how to make a living
and accumulate wealth. But let us examine what happened to them 25 years
later.
1. President of largest steel company, Charles Schwab, lived on borrowed
capital for five years before he died bankrupt.
2. President of largest gas company, Howard Hobson, went insane.
3. One of the greatest commodity traders, Arthur Cutton died insolvent.
4. President of the New York Stoke Exchange, Richard Whitney, was went to
jail.
5. A member of the President's Cabinet, Albert Fall, was pardoned from
jail to go home and die in peace.
6. The greatest "bear" on Wall Street, Jessie Livermore,
committed suicide. 7. President of the world's greatest monopoly, Iver
Krueger, committed suicide.
8. President of the Bank of international Settlement, Leon Fraser,
committed suicide.
What they forgot was how to make a life! Money is only a medium of
exchange. It does not make you know, how to make a life. But the word
makes you know who you are and helps you to realize the purpose of your
life. So take scripture as your companion in this spiritual journey.

St. John: 16: 7-8:
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away: forif
I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will
send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of
righteousness, and of judgment:
In instructing His disciples, regarding the coming of the Holy Spirit,
Jesus said, " If I go not away the Comforter will not unto you; but if I
depart, I will send Him unto you. And when he is come, He will ..
(1) Convict men of the sin of unbelief ( John 16:9)
(2) Convict men that Jesus is the righteousness of God. (Rom 1: 3,4)
(3) Convict men that the power of Satan has been broke. (John: 16:11)
(4) Regenerate the believer. (John: 3:5; Titus: 3:5)
(5) Indwell the believer. (1 Cor. 6:19,20)
(6) Seal the believer. (Eph.1: 13,14)
(7) Baptize the believer ( Acts. 1:5, 1 Cor.12:13)
(8) Infill the believer (Eph. 5:18)
(9) Empower the believer ( Acts: 1:8)
(10) Lead the believer ( Gal: 5: 16-18)
(11) Administer spiritual gifts to the believer (1Cor. 12: 1-11)
The Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost, to remain with the
church until it is complete and presented to the Lord Jesus at His coming. Just
as Jesus Christ finished the work He came to do in the flesh, so the Holy Spirit
will finish the work He came to do in the Church.
Next month: THE FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
-Dr. Thampi P. Daniel.

Leonardo da Vinci was one of the most remarkable human being ever lived. From
childhood he attracted attention because of his passion for learning. Leonardo
lived from 1452 to 1519. He was an outstanding painter, sculptor, and architect.
He designed bridges, highways, weapons, costumes, and scientific instruments. He
invented the diving bell and tank and designed flying machines. He was a
handsome man with muscles so powerful to bend iron and tame wild horses. But he
was tender hearted that he would purchase little caged birds just for the
pleasure of setting them "free" again. He enjoyed "Origami"
an ancient art of paper folding. He became an expert in every field that
interested him.
Leonardo holds a unique place in the history of art. He was brought up in
Florence, Italy, where he lived until he was 24. At 15 he entered the studio of
Verocchio. After studying a problem, he made many sketches to help him to find a
solution. He believed in solving difficult problems.
By the time Leonardo was 20 years old, he became a master painter. His work had
a great influence on other painters. One of the Leonardo's greatest work
"The Last Supper" was painted in Milan when he was 23 years old. He
was hired by Duke of Milan, a musician and a painter. After several days Duke
complained, Leonardo spent much time doing nothing. After nagging Leonardo for
months, he gave Duke an answer. He said that 13 people at the supper he could
not finish two heads: that of Christ, because he could not imagine the beauty of
his grace, and that of cunning face of Judas, who hold the money- bag and look
at Jesus in alarm.
"The Last Supper" scene is
the night of the Passover supper in a small upper room in a house in Jerusalem.
Jesus was surrounded by His disciples and breaking the bread of their farewell
meal. Christ is the central figure and each disciple is expressing his feelings
in his own way. Each gesture represents an individual type of character and the
central figure creating unity as the motive of the scene.
At the masters right sits John the
beloved in broken-hearted in silence. Peter leans toward touching John's
shoulder, it seems urging him to ask the master who the traitor is? Behind Peter
is Andrew with raised head then James at the end Bartholomew.
At the left of Christ is Thomas who
went to India to preach the Gospel with raised hand and a finger, seeming to
say, "Lord, is it I?" Philip with compassion and regret in his face
seems to say, "Thou sees my heart, Lord is it I?" We see fear and
doubt in the faces of James, Matthew, Thaddeus, Simon and other disciples.
We are touched by the face of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ, sad, submissive and forgiving. It seems Jesus was hopeful
that Judas might even repent for his actions before it is too late. In one hand,
with palm downward seems to say "If it be possible, let this cup pass from
me". Leonardo spent several months to bring glory in Jesus' face and left
it in his own mind incomplete.
Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last
Supper" is nearly lost and it's history is a sad one. After few years it's
beauty began to fade. During napoleon's invasion with this picture in the wall,
soldiers used this hall as a military camp. It is said that soldiers amused
themselves by throwing bricks at this beautiful master piece, "The Last
Supper".
