"Come to Jesus and bring every child to Jesus"

"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not turn from it" Proverbs 22:6

We are celebrating world Sunday school Day on Nov. 5th. Sunday School began in 1780 in Gloucester, England by a person Robert Rakes. He started classes for poor neglected children who worked 6 days in a week in a factory. He turned the cursing, fighting and thieving children into people who read the Bible and sang hymns. Here I would like to share two aspects of the Sunday School that helps our children in their walk with Christ.
 1) Study of the word of God.

As children, you have many influences today like wrong friends, bad books, horror movies thriller stories comics etc... Slowly they drift you away from Bible reading and prayer. Such influences make them follow the wrong choices. It is said that "road from heaven to hell is a quick way". Here is a small story. A huge bird was flying high in the sky. Down on the earth a small cat was pulling a cart saying "fresh worms for sale". The bird noticed it and flew down and asked for fresh worms to eat. Dear friend you don't give me any money, instead you give me one of your feathers in exchange, said the cat. The bird was interested and took some worms and dropped each of its feathers one by one -eating and dropping feathers was carried on. Finally all the worms in the cart were over and the bird lost most of its feathers. The bird could not fly any more and it fell flat on the ground. Suddenly the cat caught the bird and ate it. The outcome of sin is like that. Enjoying sin leads to destruction and fall.
So in order to be free from the influences of sin and to grow in Christian faith, we need to study the word of God. Even as a young boy, Jesus studied the scriptures. When he was 12 years old, Jesus was discussing the scripture with Jewish teachers in the temple of Jerusalem. In Psalm 119:105 the Psalmist says "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and light unto my path". If we use the word of God in our life, it will be a light for us and direct us in the correct path.

2) Developing our talents.

As his children, God has blessed us with many talents. But we need to use them for the glory of our God. Our Sunday school gives us many opportunities to show our talents. We have singing, storytelling, memory verse, elocution and other competitions. Jesus tells us in a parable, why we should make use of our talents. (Mat. 25:14ff) We learn that the servants who used the talents and earned more talents were put in charge of more responsibilities. They were able to enter into the master's happiness. So it is important to use our talents and Sunday school provides opportunities to develop our talents.

Let us take Sunday school seriously and carry on the torch that was lit by Robert Rakes.

THE FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

 Galatians: 5: 22.-23.

"The fruit of the Spirit is Love". Only as we live in love can we fulfill the will of God in our lives. The believer must become love-inspired, love mastered and love driven. (2 Cor.5:14). Without the fruit of the Spirit (love), we are just a religious novice (1 Cor.13:1) "The fruit of Spirit is love",and it is manifested in Joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance:

1) Joy is love's strength.
2) Peace is love's security.
3) Long-suffering is love's conduct.
4) Gentleness is love conduct.
5) Goodness is love's character.
6) Faith is love's confidence.
7) Meekness is love's humility.
8) Temperance is love's victory.

A holy Spirit-controlled man needs no law to cause him to live a righteous life. The secret of a Spirit-controlled life is found: Rom: 12:12. Put your all on the alter, and the Holy Spirit will fill your heart with the love of God. (Rom: 5:5).

Next month: SINS AGAINST THE HOLY SPIRIT.

-Dr. Thampi P. Daniel.

Our pains a blessing or a cure?

Bernie Siegel, MD, is a cancer specialist, he often shocks his patients by asking a strange question, "Why did you need this illness?". He claims that our bodies will break down to give us a message. Many times we ignore these messages. Nobody wants to be ill. According To Dr. Siegal cancer was the best thing that ever happened to them. They learned to appreciate life and to express their feelings to their loved ones. A time to understand running for too many things may not be the way our Creator wants us to live. So, even our illness can be a blessing in our life. A flat tire will keep us from catching a plane, a missed appointment and a project delay all will make us miserable. So take time to smell the flowers read a good book, talk to a child and rethink our route in our life. When we think we are sitting on the top of the world, we may be sitting in a dangerous place.

- Mr. Philip Chacko (Raju)
