MINISTERS OF RECONCILIATION (2 cor 5:11-21)

It is the theme of the next Diocesan Family Conference scheduled to be held at Canada on July 2007. It is an age, hungry for the healing of broken relationships. Hence conflicts abound in the domestic, social, religious and political spheres; so there is the need of conflict resolution or reconciliation.

On Nov.4th 1995, in Tel Aviv he addressed a large crowd on a peace rally, and sang with them the "song for peace". As he was about to get into the car, a Jewish terrorist assassinated him. He was Yitzhak Rabin, the Prime Minister of Israel who gives his life for a renewed relationship between Jews and Arab neighbors. The otherwise dark Conflict -ridden world is brightened up with luminous presence of people like Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Yitzhak Rabin and so on, who under took the mission of conflict resolution and peace making. They had to pay a great price for this.

In Jesus Christ we have the supreme example of reconciliation. He gave his life to the task of resolving the conflict between God and humanity and between human and human. We are called to share in Jesus mission of reconciliation.

For Paul says, "All this is from God who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation" (2 Cor 5:18) Conflict resolution and peace making are the responsibilities and mission of every child of God. Many a time, we may retreat from the scene of conflicts, saying that it is none of our business. Then we are actually shying away from shouldering the responsibility of peace making. As we are observing the Great Lent, let us dedicate ourselves to serve as agents of reconciliation and peace making.

God, make us a channel of your peace, that where there is hatred let us bring his love (Francis of Assisi)

LITTLE FAITH.

St. Matthew 14: 28-31

At this stage in the spiritual growth of Peter, he was a man of "little faith". However, after Pentecost, he became a spiritual giant. Let us take a good look at his "little faith" and profit from it. Jesus came to His distressed disciples, walking on the water in the midst of a storm. Peter asked to come to Jesus on the water. He must have thrilled at the thought of doing the impossible. Jesus said, "Come".

1.) Peter did impossible thing: he walked on the water, by faith.
2.) Next, Peter did the conceivable thing: he saw the storm, and had a second thought - he doubted. For a moment, he lost sight of Jesus. He may have turned and started back to the boat (Luke. 9:62).
3) Now Peter did the natural thing: he feared destruction. Doubt always breeds fear.
4) The Peter did the expected thing: he began to sink - he failed.
5) Now Peter did the right thing: he prayed, "Lord save me" Immediately Jesus stretched forth His hand and caught him. Once more Peter made contact with Jesus by faith.
6) Again Peter did the impossible thing: he walked on the water with Jesus, to the boat. In this lesson we see the success and failure of "little faith"

Now let us recap the step that led to failure. Peter started by faith, and walked on the water. Then he saw the storm, and had second thought that led to doubt, the produced fear, that caused him to turn back, that brought about failure.

You need a faith that is bigger than elements that would drag you down to defeat. You can have big faith by "Prayer and Fasting"(Matt. 17: 20, 21) and by feeding your faith on the Word of God (Rom. 10:17). You can have mountain moving faith.

Next month: " THREE KINDS OF FAITH"

-Dr. Thampi P. Daniel.
