CONFESSIONAL RESPONSE TO THE CROSS “……….Surely
He was the Son of God” (Mat. 27 :54)
Jesus was crucified with two criminals, one on his right
and one on his left. The whole battalion of Roman soldiers witnessed the
mocking of Jesus by the soldiers. The Roman centurion must have surely
seen all the treatment meted out to Jesus. He must have noticed the
extraordinary serenity and calmness with which Jesus suffered all the
verbal and physical abuse.
Even in the midst of excruciating pain of crucifixion
Jesus did not lose his peace and composure, unlike the other criminals who
usually abuse and curse during their suffering. This must have surprised
the Gentile military official. The reaction of Jesus to the intense
suffering inflicted upon him must have led the Roman official to believe
in Jesus.
Luke 23:47 say that centurion praised God and said, “Certainly
this man was innocent” The parallel account of Mathew and Mark are
little more theologically important. In both the Gospels the centurion
confess that Jesus is the son of God or the Messiah. Thus the crucified
Jesus evoked a confessional statement from a Gentile-a Roman military
official. When the Jewish leaders could not see their Messiah in Jesus, a
Gentile could identify Jesus as the Messiah.
Because Jesus bore the cross for us, we should be willing
to take it up for him, so as to attract many people to Christ. Let us lift
up the crucified Christ, so that many will turn to God.
A missionary went to preach the gospel of Christ to
tribe of native Indians in America and at first, the people received him
with reservation, referring to him as “White Man”. Later, when they
saw his goodness and his desire for their well being, they spoke of him as
the “White Indian”, indicating that they had accepted him as one of
their own. When one of the Indians got ill, the missionary took him to his
home, nursed him and restored him to health. From then on they began to
call him” Our Man”, “the man from God”. This is the right example
of “denying himself and taking up his cross” so as to attract many
people to Christ.
“Nothing speaks more clearly of God’s love than the
cross.” |

THE GREAT JUDGMENT OF THE NATIONS
St. Mathew 25: 31-32.
"When the Son of man shall come in his glory,
and all the holy angels with him, then shall be sit upon the throne of his glory”
And "before him shall be gathered all nations: and shall separate them one
from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats”
This judgment is not the judgment of the great white throne. (Rev. 20: 11-15) A
careful comparison of the two judgments will establish the following facts:
(1) The judgment of the nations will take place "when the Son of man shall
come in His glory...then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory"
(2) At this judgment, He will judge the living nations (Joel 3:11-16). At the
white throne judgment, He will judge the wicked dead.
(3) At this judgment, there will be no resurrection of the dead. At
the great white throne, all the wicked dead are raised "the sea gave up the
dead which were in it, and the death and hell delivered up the dead which were
in them. (Rev. 20:13).
(4) At this judgment, the judge is God "the King" judging the living
nations in His earthly kingdom. At the
great white throne, the judge is God, judging only the wicked dead.
(5) At this judgment, there are no books opened. At the great white throne, the
"books were opened."
(6) At this judgment, there are three classes judged: "sheep"- the
saved (Rev. 7:9-17): "goats"- the unsaved (II The. 1: 7-10:
"brethren"- the elect of Israel ( Rev.7:1-8) also see Rom: 11:25-28).
At the great white throne, there is only one class: "the dead".
(7) At this judgment, the King gives the kingdom to those to who have eternal
life. At the great white
throne, there are no saved and no kingdom; they are all "cast into the lake
of fire."
Dear brothers and sisters lead a life with God Almighty in His love and care.
May God bless you all!.
-Dr. Thampi P. Daniel
