BE SALT
“You are the salt of the earth.” (Mat.5: 13a)
Jesus was a master of using ordinary things to illustrate
spiritual realities. Jesus used the image of salt to describe how His
disciples are to live in the world and to be distinct. As salt purifies,
preserves and penetrates, the disciples are called to serve as salt in the
world to purify, preserve and penetrate other believers for the glory of
God.
Jesus saw his followers as being distinct. He called them
“the salt of the earth”. Salt was a valuable commodity in the ancient
world. Before the days of refrigeration, salt was the most common means of
preserving meat and other perishable foods. Salt has a way of slowing down
the process of spoiling. Christians are called to have that same kind of
effect in this world. Our presence is to slow down the corrosive, spoiling
effects of sin, not only in terms of spiritual sin but also including
structural sin.
Dr. Liza Markus, born in Italy, came to India at the
age of 39 and served as a medical doctor in Wagomon, a rural village in
Kerala. As a medical doctor she followed all simplicity in life. Later Dr.
Liza became the part of the life experience of the poor people of that
village. As an angel of the Lord, she was familiar with the heartbeats and
heartaches of the ordinary people. At the age of 66,she was taken to the
eternal home. As a salty Christian she made others thirsty for Jesus. Are
you ready to follow her footsteps to make others thirsty for Jesus?
“Called to salt and light in the world
Called to preserve and to shine
Called to reflect the glory of God Oh!
What a calling is mine”!

THE CHURCH: ITS POWER
Acts : 1: 8 - "But ye shall receive power, after that
the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in
Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Sa-mar-i-a, and unto the outermost part of
the earth."
On the day of Pentecost the Church received power to evangelize
the world. When the hundred and twenty came down from the Upper Room, they came
in the dynamics of the Holy Spirit. It was a spiritual phenomenon issuing forth
in joyful ecstasy and miracle working power, resulting in conviction of sin,
"repentance towards God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ".
Acts: 20:21. Some were empowered for special service, but all received power to
witness.
The real power of the church is not found in:
(1) Modern buildings or unique methods of preaching and
teaching.
(2) It's great wealth or how that wealth is used.
(3) The Church's prominence or popularity. The Laodicea Church was the first
bragging congregation, (Rev. 3:14-22) but not the last.
They said, we are rich, God said they were poor.
They said, we are wealthy. God said they were wretched.
They said, we do not need anything. God said they need everything.
They said, we are busy in the Church. God said they were miserable.
They said, we have a vision. God said they were blind.
They said, were are clothed in fine garments. God said they were naked.
They said, we are satisfied. God said they made Him sick.
You can always recognize a Holy Spirit powered Church. The evidence is obvious,
they have power :
(1) Evangelize; they share their faith with the lost and souls
are saved. Evangelism is the only way to make full proof your ministry (2Tim
4:5) When a church is not involved in winning souls it grieves the Holy Spirit
and is void of power
(2) Reproduce; souls are born into the family of God by the
"incorruptible seed" which is the word of God (1Pet 1:23) The Spirit
filled believer sows the seed, this is evangelism, the Holy hovers over the
seed, convicting, converting and leading the lost repentance. This is the
spiritual birth.
Let God give you all the blessings to be a very Good and active
Church member and good for others. May God bless you all according to His
richness in Christ Jesus.
Dr. Thampi Daniel
