Joseph’s journey from prison to palace
This year VBS theme was Joseph’s journey from prison to palace. The history
of the life of Joseph is found in Genesis chapters 37 to 50. Joseph was one
of the great heroes of the Old Testament. He also had superlative
administrative skills, quick intelligence and the ability to impress the
right people. In other words, he is a man who was born to succeed. God had
given him dreams and the gift of interpretation. Why Joseph’s life is
valuable for us? The pages of bible are filled with the real stories of
hundreds of men and women. Bible reveals the positive side of their lives
and negative side also. Bible presents the real picture of human beings.
From their life experience, we can evaluate our life and see how God is
working in our life. He stands as a model of what every believer should
strive to be. Joseph‘s childhood situation were not that good. Joseph was
uprooted and moved in his young age. As a whole we can see Joseph, had to
see rape, murder, incest, betrayal, intrigue, idolatry, jealousy, death and
hatred. This was a very negative and hostile environment in which a child
could be raised. He had all the chances to grow as an evil person. Instead
he grew as a matured god fearing, good person. He overcame all these bad
situations with God. He faced the negative influence in his life, but
consciously changed that into a positive one. Joseph was able to overcome
all the negatives in his life with Gods providence and his power. Even
though he had experienced bitterness in his life, he never wavered. He never
fell. He never complained. He never compromised. He never lost his power
with God. He stood for the glory of god in his terrible situations. His life
itself demonstrates the triumph of faith.
Joseph is the man who changed his prison experience into a blessing. If you
have the spirit of God in you, you can make lot of differences in your life
and others life wherever you are placed, you can change the whole life
environment of prison hood into a blessing. While in prison, Joseph kept his
relationship with God right and was faithful before God in serving others.
Yet men forgot his good deed. He is the man of great vision. Joseph not only
tells Pharaoh what is about to happen in Egypt, he tells Pharaoh what to do
about it! Therefore God not only tells you what you need to do but also
finds a remedy or solution to your problems. Joseph was the man who
interpreted his dreams and others dream. He worked hard to fulfill these
dreams. Pharaoh took Joseph out of prison and put him in charge of Egypt to
prepare for the predicted famine in the land. Because of Joseph, Egypt was
prepared for the famine and the nation survived. Because of his faithfulness
and love towards God, he takes him and appointed him as the second man of
the nation. At last his faithfulness and love for God released him from
prison and he reached palace. If you love your God wholeheartedly he will
definitely take care of you. He will never forsake you. He will deliver you
from all kinds of dangers. David says in psalms 23 verse 8: “ I know that
your goodness and love will be with ne all my life; and your house will be
my home as long as I live”.
May the good Lord bless each one of you,
Jai Varghese Achen |

Good Parenting Series
Communicating with our children - Part 1
"Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My
brethren, these things ought not to be so" - James 3:10
"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be
acceptable in your sight" - Psalms 19:14
The words which parents communicate have so
much impact on the children that their character is molded by the impact of the
words they listen everyday at home. Words can inspire people to act and react.
Good communication always develops confidence, security, self-esteem in the
minds of the children. Words filled with anger, hatred cursing creates low self
confidence and fear to face the challenges of the world.
The psalmist says in Psalm 12 there are two
types of conversation, one is the Godly conversation and the second is the
ungodly conversation. The words that come from a selfish, boastful, proud heart
is always evil and unacceptable to God. The words of God are pure, holy and
acceptable and always create Peace and Joy. We should allow Godly conversation
to fill our home. Children learn to talk what they hear from their parents. When
the parents are impolite to each other or speak hurtful words the child will
have a negative attitude for life. We pass on all our religious, spiritual and
Biblical Values through our communication.
Communication may be Verbal or Non verbal
.The action without any communication is the Non Verbal communication. All the
positive actions of love without any words are Non Verbal Communication they
have a lasting impact on the children. Words of praise for every little thing
that children do, listening to everything what the child has to say and being
always for them for all the things they need is a way to build positive
communicative skills.
Arguments by parents before the child,
shouting, outbursts of anger cursing are all negative forms of communication it
will make them feel insecure. When we have the communication make always
reference from the Bible, quote the scripture portion use always words that
Thank, Glorify and Praise God then children will grow in the fear of God and
Love for their fellow beings.

THE WORLD CELEBRATES
Fourth of July
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be
free indeed.” (John 8:36)
Our Nations birthday: When we think
of it our minds wander down the years when this nation was born. When, a mere
strip of land along the Atlantic sea, America dared to throw off the restraining
hand of England, and to assume the rights and responsibilities of an independent
nation. We think of those brave forefathers for their courage and faith to draft
and sign the declaration of independence- The birth certificate of the new born
nation and later when the 14 men framed the constitution of United States,
stretching from ocean to ocean and from the Great lakes to the gulf.
We can see the young nation growing
with the motto “In God we trust” putting fourth efforts of acquiring riches fame
and power. We can see its struggles to throw off customs which was strangling
it. And when it reached manhood, we see it fighting the battles of other people
an mindful of its our profit. The nation always stands for selfless service for
the upliftment of other nations in the world.
Freedom in the deep Christian sense
is to be free to serve others. It is experienced as duty, responsibilities as a
response to the claims of love and justice. We are free when we know how to give
ourselves to others without demanding anything in return. We are free when we
love the welfare of our neighbors more than our own freedom. People who
regularly exhibit mutual love and dedication are truly free. Those who labor for
the rights of the oppressed are truly free.
It's a custom to bring gifts on a
loved ones birthday. What is an appropriate gift that we bring for this country?
Not money, she has an ample supply of that. Not power, nor honor, nor glory.
These are hers in abundance. Let us, on this Anniversary of our country's birth
bring gifts of loyal service, consciousness, and obedience without which a
nation even as great as this cannot exist.
