Dearly beloved in Christ, "And they
will call Him Immanuel" Matt 1:23
During my Clinical Pastoral Education internship at the Wesley Woods Geriatric Center,
I came across a number of people who told me that they have nobody to love and to care.
They feel lonely and unwanted! It seems that this is not just the problem of a small group
of people with whom I had the opportunity to interact, but a more common problem among
each and every one of us. There are many occasions in our own life when we feel like that
we are alone and not wanted! On those occasions, how much do we wish that if we had a
companion who could live with us, understands us and owns us? God's answer to this human
longing is Jesus Christ. "Immanuel," the name given to Jesus means "God
with us." God offered His presence to the lonely human beings through Jesus. The good
news of Christmas is that we are no more alone, but have a friend who is always with us.
The hymn "What a friend we have in Jesus," is more relevant to us when we
remember God's gift of His son.
Christmas is the time to experience and to share presence and companionship of Christ.
Whenever we provide friendship and companionship to others, in the name of Jesus, we are
celebrating Christmas! As we celebrate Christmas this year, let us celebrate the presence
of Christ with us and others. Christmas is Christ with us, within us and through us.
May the eternal presence of Jesus Christ heal our loneliness and make us whole.
WISH YOU ALL A CHRIST CENTERED CHRISTMAS AND A CHRISTMAS CENTERED NEW YEAR.
In His service,
Simon Behanan Achen
Merry Christmas & a
