Dearly beloved in Christ,

Greetings to all the members of the Atlanta Mar Thoma church. God has called us through Jesus Christ to be the temple of God. St.Paul says, "Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the spirit of God dwells in you?" (I Cor 3:16). We are called by God to be his temple and to take the temple from the sanctuary to the people. We need human temples rather than human bombs. Building the temple within us, among us and around us are our great tasks. When we build, we have to create space for the spirit of God and for others. Creating space is a challenging ministry. Another task is keeping the temple holy, for which continuous cleansing is needed. As we celebrate the first anniversary of our church dedication and parish day, let us dedicate ourselves too to be His temples in the world.
Here is a prayer for us.

God, make me a temple from Sunday thru Saturday
God, make me a temple from morning thru evening
God, make me a temple from market thru marginal
God, make me a temple from road thru office
God, make me a temple from failures thru victories
God, make me a temple from illness thru good health
God, make me a temple from today thru eternity.

May God bless and make us His temples!

In His service,

Behanan Achen

Letter to the Editor

Please note the following suggestions for the Mar Thoma Church Newsletter:

Kidz Korner: This area of the Newsletter would allow our youth to actively participate with their creative thoughts and ideas.

I see a Poetry Section where kids showcase their poetic talents, with topics ranging from family, God, the Church, social issues, school, etc. The items published would rest with the joint selection of our Achen and the Editor.

Kidz Accomplishments Section:  Our youth's educational, social, church, family, etc. accomplishments are highlighted. This area could be broad in scope and could show how successful our youth are [or will be]. Co-ed age ranges are suggested (i.e. ages 5 to 9, 10 to 15, 16 to 20, 21 to 25, and 26+) where top winners from each age group are awarded trophies [or prizes].

Kidz Tournaments Section: This area is suggested as on-going events and eventually could be included in the newsletter.

Kidz Sports Tournament Section where our youth compete with each other in different sports activities. Some suggested sporting events are basketball, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, chess, etc. Co-ed age ranges are suggested (i.e. 10 to 15, 16 to 20, 21 to 25, and 26+) with top winners from each age group awarded trophies [or prizes]. In a larger scope, the Atlanta Mar Thoma Church could compete with other Atlanta churches (i.e. the Jacobite Church(es), Pentecostal Church, etc.)

Spelling Bee Competition among our youth, much like our local, state, and national-level spelling bees. Finally, a Geography Bee Competition among our youth, much like our local, state and national-level spelling bees.

Anyway, these are my thoughts. I hope you find them helpful. Please remember that I am willing to work with you as the Co-Editor for the Newsletter, so please keep me in mind.

Thanks for everything that you do!!!

Best Regards,

Johnson Joseph

Other News

Atlanta Mar Thomas Church Web Page:

If you have not visited the web, please come online and log on to http://www.atlantamarthomachurch.com. Thomas Abraham (Liji) is the webmaster and I must congratulate him for a job well done in such a short amount of time. I apologize for using the wrong webmaster name in the last news letter. A copy of the news letter can also be found on the web.

Vacation Bible School (VBS):

This years VBS will be conducted in our parish from July 19th through July 21st of 2002. For more information, please contact Mr. Thomas Varghese @ 770- 736-5216 or Mr. John K. Varghese @770-935-7717.

Financial Crisis:

In order to avoid putting the church in a financial crisis, please be diligent in making your monthly subscription. It is estimated that it would take more than $7000.00 per month to meet the monthly church related expenses including mortgage. Considering the number of active family members in the church, it would amount to $100 per month per family to help things run smoothly.

Deadline:

The deadline for submission of articles for publication in the August AMTC newsletter is July 20th. Please send articles and ads, if any, to oomman@bellsouth.net
