Dearly beloved in Christ, WRITING
IN THE SAND AND ON THE STONE
"And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him,
so that your father in heaven may forgive you your sins." Mark 11:25
What is our attitude towards those who hurt us? What is our attitude towards
forgiveness? Are we able to forgive those who hurt us? Here is a story that I saw on the
internet, that speaks to us loudly. Two friends were walking through a desert. During some
point of their journey they had an argument, and one slapped the other ones face.
The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, he wrote in the sand:
"TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME ON MY FACE." Then they kept on walking until
they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got
stuck in the mire and started drowning, but his friend saved him. After he recovered from
the near drowning experience, he wrote on a stone: "TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY
LIFE." The friend who slapped and saved his best friend asked him, " After I
hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you are writing on a stone, why?" The friend
replied, "When someone hurts us we should write it down in the sand where winds of
forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does some thing good for us, we must
engrave it on stone where no wind can ever erase it."
LET US LEARN TO WRITE OUR HURTS IN THE SAND AND TO ENGRAVE OUR BENEFITS ON STONE. LET
US LEARN TO FORGIVE AND FORGET ALL OUR HURTS AND BRUISES. Jesus said," Love your
enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who
mistreat you ... do to others as you would have them to do to you." (Luke
6:27-31) Let us celebrate the month of October as the month of forgiveness and let us
share the good news of forgiveness to others. May God bless us all!
In His service,
Behanan Achen |

Images of God1, in every color, creed, and race
Vanish or mar in fire by blindness and hatred
Twin Towers, our icon marveled so long vanish in flames
Helpless we stare, in panic we run, despair sets in
Fourth man in fire, so bright, walked with his children2
Is in every fire we face, our comfort and strength
Timeless deliverer, with us to the end of ages3,
In drought and water hell lead us4, have no distrust
By faith5 we walk in confidence through fire and destruction
By hope we have victory over every disappointment6
By love we pray for friends and foes for divine wisdom
Bless us, Lord, with fruit of the Spirit7 to live in harmony

Famous American novelist Ernest Hemingway was seriously wounded in Italy, during an
explosion in World War II. His doctors removed 237 metal pieces from his body. Although
his physical wounds healed over time, the trauma of experiencing a close encounter with
death left a severe scar in his mind which never healed. He never forgot what he witnessed
in war or the tragedy of his fellow men having to cope with the pain of losing their legs,
hands, and/or eyes. Out of these painful experiences, Hemingway developed a formula, a
theme for writing his novels. It is not unusual to find the main character in his novel
encountering a difficult situation which generally involves violence, suffering, and even
death. It is safe to conclude that Hemingway had no clue as to who Jesus Christ was and
the significance of his messages.
When we think of suffering, or pain, what are the words of God to those who are
searching for answers? In the Bible, God does not attempt to explain all the suffering
that we as human beings must face. For example, death, or the broken dreams of a college
student. There are no complete explanations for the cause of cancer, stroke, or heart
attacks. The Bible does not attempt to rationalize any of these problems. Suffering and
pain in our lives, are not the judgment of god, but helps to show that God is capable of
developing beauty from ash. We dont realize the blessings that come out of pain
immediately. However, in the midst of pain, God still speaks to us! God does not explain
to us why we suffer, but He gives us a clear indication as to whom we can count on and
trust when we are faced with trials and troubles in our life. We have to understand
Gods pathways because the only important thing for Him is our eternal destiny. He
wants us to move on by continuously trusting in him.
In our darkest hours, God will not give up on us or forsake us. Reading His words, and
continuously trusting in God is hard at times but doing so brings incredible peace of mind
and joy to our lives. Spend time in prayer, have a very positive attitude and encourage
each other. Tragedy and sickness have stricken all of us at one time or the other, but
trusting in God must give us immense comfort. We must come out of difficult times stronger
and not beaten down. Isaiah 43:1-2 says, Fear not, for I have redeemed you, I have
summoned you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through
the fire, you will not be burned, the flames will not set you ablaze.
